Victorian toys and puzzles will be among a fabulous display of exhibits from the past 500 years going on sale at The Cotswolds Decorative, Antiques & Art Fair at Westonbirt, 31st March – 2nd April.
Among the highlights will be a pictorial puzzle from the 1820’s, illustrated with twenty-four scenes from English History, to be sold by new exhibitor Sally Honey who trades as Opus Antiques and specialises in treen and small collector’s items.
The historic scenes shown in the pictorial puzzle, when assembled, range from the landingof Caesar to the death of Richard lll and underneath each is a description and date. The puzzle has its original box with the original colour pictorial guide sheet. It measures 42cm w x 27cm completed. A fine example of an unusual collectable of social history, it will be priced at £880.
The puzzle originates from the shop of Edward Edlin, turner and toy manufacturer of 37 New Bond Street in London, in the early 1800s. He was succeeded by Thomas Edlin, books and stationary seller.
